Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Spread a layer of smoothly mashed potatoes seasoned with salt and mixed with butter (about 1 ounce per pound) on the serving dish.
  2. Mix the minced underdressed beef or mutton with a little of the gravy from the joint, or any other gravy on hand.
  3. Season the meat mixture with salt, pepper, and a small quantity of nutmeg.
  4. Spread the seasoned meat mixture equally and thickly over the potato layer.
  5. Place another even layer of potatoes over the meat.
  6. Send the dish to a moderate oven for half an hour; if using fresh meat instead of roasted, bake for an hour or something more.
