Ingredients
- potatoes
- 1 ounce butter
- beef or mutton
- a few spoonsful gravy
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- a small quantity nutmeg
Instructions
- Spread a layer of smoothly mashed potatoes seasoned with salt and mixed with butter (about 1 ounce per pound) on the serving dish.
- Mix the minced underdressed beef or mutton with a little of the gravy from the joint, or any other gravy on hand.
- Season the meat mixture with salt, pepper, and a small quantity of nutmeg.
- Spread the seasoned meat mixture equally and thickly over the potato layer.
- Place another even layer of potatoes over the meat.
- Send the dish to a moderate oven for half an hour; if using fresh meat instead of roasted, bake for an hour or something more.
