Bread Sauce

Ingredients
- 1/2 pint bread-crumbs
- 1/2 pint new milk
- 1 small saltspoonful salt
- 1/2 small saltspoonful mace
- cayenne
- 1 ounce fresh butter
- 2 spoonsful good cream
Instructions
- Pour quite boiling milk over the bread-crumbs and cover closely with a plate.
- Let the sauce remain for twenty or thirty minutes.
- Transfer the soaked mixture into a delicately clean saucepan and add salt, pounded mace, a little cayenne, and fresh butter.
- Keep it stirred constantly over a clear fire for a few minutes.
- Mix in the cream, give it a boil, and serve immediately.
