Bread Sauce

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Pour quite boiling milk over the bread-crumbs and cover closely with a plate.
  2. Let the sauce remain for twenty or thirty minutes.
  3. Transfer the soaked mixture into a delicately clean saucepan and add salt, pounded mace, a little cayenne, and fresh butter.
  4. Keep it stirred constantly over a clear fire for a few minutes.
  5. Mix in the cream, give it a boil, and serve immediately.
