German Coffee Cake (Mrs. T. G. Petre.)

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Beat six fresh eggs very light with one pound of sugar and one pound flour. Add the grated peel of a lemon, and one yeast cake dissolved in a little hot milk or water.
  2. Let the mixture stand until very light. Roll into sheets about one inch thick.
  3. Spread the sheets thickly with melted butter. Sprinkle with the blanched and shredded bitter almonds mixed together with four ounces sugar and one teaspoonful powdered cinnamon.
  4. Let rise again, then bake in a moderate oven. Good served hot or cold.
