Burnt Coffee, or Coffee à la Militaire (In France vulgarly called Gloria)

Instructions

1. Make some coffee as strong and as clear as possible.
2. Sweeten it in the cup with white sugar, almost to syrup.
3. Pour the brandy on the top, gently, over a spoon.
4. Set fire to it with a lighted paper.
5. When the spirit is in part consumed, blow out the flame.
6. Drink the gloria quite hot.
