Instructions

  1. Wash the blackberries after picking. Put them in a pot with barely enough water to prevent burning. Bring to a good boil and skim clean.
  2. Wet the flour or cornstarch well with cold water, then add it gradually to the berries. Add sugar to taste.
  3. Cook, stirring often, until the mass looks thick and glossy. Pour into a pudding dish, let cool, then chill thoroughly.
  4. Serve with cream—either plain, whipped, or sweetened.
