Light Bread Pie

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Grate the stale bread.
  2. Combine one and one-half teacupfuls of grated bread with two teacupfuls of sweet milk, the juice of one orange, and half of the orange peel, grated.
  3. Stir in the beaten yolks of four eggs.
  4. Add half a teacupful of sugar and one tablespoonful of butter to the mixture.
  5. Line a pie plate with one crust at the bottom only.
  6. Pour the filling into the crust.
  7. Bake quickly.
  8. After baking, top the pie with a meringue made from the four egg whites beaten very light.
