Plebeian Ginger Bread

Ingredients
- 3 large spoonsful pounded ginger
- 3 quarts flour
- 3 tea-spoonsful pearl-ash
- 1 cup water
- 0.5 pound butter
- 1 quart molasses
Instructions
- Mix the pounded ginger with the flour and sift together. Dissolve the pearl-ash in a cup of water. Melt the butter in the molasses, then combine this with the flour mixture. Mix the pearl-ash water into the dough. Knead the dough well. Cut into shapes and bake.
