Barley Soup

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Put the barley and water on to boil with a few cut-up onions, six carrots scraped and cut into dice, and an equal quantity of turnips cut small. Boil gently for two hours.
  2. Then add four or five pounds of the rack or neck of mutton and a few slices of lean ham. Season with pepper and salt. Boil slowly for two hours longer and serve.
  3. Tomatoes are an excellent addition to this soup.
