Dough Nuts—A Yankee Cake

Ingredients
- 0.5 pound good brown sugar
- 2 pounds flour
- 2 spoonfuls yeast
- new milk
- 0.5 pound butter
- lard
Instructions
- Dry and pound the brown sugar, then mix it with the flour and sift together. Stir in the yeast and add new milk until the mixture has the consistency of bread dough. Allow to rise well. Once risen, knead in the butter. Form into cakes the size of a half dollar. Fry them in boiling lard until light brown.
