Beef Steak (Stewed)

Instructions

  1. Fry the steak quickly in 1 oz. butter.
  2. Brown one onion, and warm half a pint of water before it goes near the meat.
  3. Put the steak in a stewpan with the warmed half-pint of water, the browned onion, tomato sauce, pepper, salt, a teaspoonful of brown flour, and a little cayenne.
  4. Cover the pan close and stew all gently for an hour.
  5. Thicken the gravy with butter rolled in flour. Enough for six people.
