Jam (Separi or Cape Gooseberry)

Instructions

  1. Take one pound of "gooseberries" to three-quarters of a pound of sugar.
  2. Prick each berry twice, and put the fruit and sugar in layers into the preserving-pan.
  3. Let it simmer until the sugar is melted. A cup of water may be poured over the fruit and sugar.
  4. When quite melted, let it boil briskly for two hours.
