Coffee for Travelling or Picnics

Ingredients
- 1 pound best Java coffee
- 0.25 pound chicory
- 1 breakfast-cup ground coffee
- 3 cups boiling water
Instructions
- Roast one pound of the best Java coffee to a rich dark brown in an American coffee roaster at home.
- Grind the roasted coffee whilst still warm.
- Mix the ground coffee with a quarter pound of chicory.
- Warm a block tin coffee-pot fitted with a flannel bag shaped like a jelly-bag.
- Take one large breakfast-cup of the ground coffee mixture and pour it into the bag.
- Pour three cups of boiling water over the coffee in the bag.
- Keep the pot on the stove or coals and let it drain through the bag twice.
- Pour the resulting concentrate into bottles and cork immediately.
- For picnic use, add one tablespoon of the concentrate to a cup of boiling milk.
