Cake (Soda) (Mrs. Myburgh's Recipe)

Instructions

  1. Have these ready: flour; a teaspoon of soda; sugar; a teaspoon of cream of tartar; butter; 3 eggs; currants; some grated lemon peel, or cinnamon; the milk.
  2. First rub the sugar and butter well together.
  3. Mix the soda and cream of tartar dry with the flour and currants.
  4. Then rub that with the butter and sugar.
  5. Lastly, add the pint of milk.
  6. Put into the oven immediately, and bake an hour and a quarter. Very good and cheap.
