Flavouring Mixture (Another Recipe) (A German Marinade for Flavouring Fish. Miss Becker's Recipe.)

Ingredients
- 1/2 pint Vinegar
- 1 oz. Butter
- 1 quart Water
- 1 dozen Peppercorns
- Bay leaves
- 4 Cloves
- 1 White onion
- Allspice
- 1/2 oz. Salt
Instructions
- Boil this mixture well and strain it.
- Let the fish simmer in it, and get cold in it.
- Remove the fish and lay it on a dish, nicely drained.
- Pour over it any Mayonnaise sauce when it is wanted as a supper or lunch dish. It should be done beforehand so as to be cold.
- Garnish with finely-chopped parsley, radish, lemon, or beetroot.
