A rich Cake

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Rub two pounds of butter into five pounds of flour.
  2. Add fifteen eggs (not much beaten), one pint of emptins and one pint of wine, and knead up stiff like biscuit dough.
  3. Cover well, put by, and let rise overnight.
  4. Soak two and a half pounds of raisins in one gill of brandy overnight, or, if new, for half an hour in the morning.
  5. Add the raisins with one gill of rose-water, two and a half pounds of loaf sugar and one ounce of cinnamon, and work well.
  6. Bake as loaf cake, No. 1.
