Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Take first-ripe damsons, pick them off carefully, and wipe them clean.
  2. Put them into snuff bottles, with nothing but plums, and stop tight against air and water.
  3. Set the bottles into cold water, hang over the fire, and heat slowly.
  4. Let the water boil slowly for half an hour.
  5. When the water is cold, take out the bottles and set in a cold place.
  6. They will keep twelve months if stopped tight; use soon after opening. The plums must be hard.
