  1. Rub together the flour and butter until the mixture resembles paste, then mix in the yeast. Set the mixture aside to rise.
  2. Once risen, mix in the eggs, sugar, and milk. Beat well together.
  3. Add currants or carraways (or both) to taste. If you prefer a richer cake, use more butter and eggs, and incorporate candied citron and lemon-peel. Beat all ingredients together thoroughly.
