Shiro Uri (Stewed Squash)

Ingredients
- squash or vegetable marrows
- salted water
- syou sauce
- cold meat or fish
- 2 tablespoonfuls miso
- 2 tablespoonfuls syou
- salt, pepper, and spices
- lemon juice
Instructions
- Peel the squash.
- Boil in salted water for twenty minutes.
- Remove from the boiling water.
- Allow the cooked squash to simmer in boiling syou sauce for five minutes longer.
- Alternatively, to stuff: take cold meat or fish and chop it very fine.
- Mix the chopped meat or fish with two tablespoonfuls of miso, two tablespoonfuls of syou, salt, pepper, and spices.
- If fish is used instead of meat, add the juice of a lemon to the mixture.
- Fill the center of the squash with the stuffing.
