An Easy Trifle

Instructions

  1. Break the sponge cakes and macaroons and ratafias into pieces and lay them at the bottom of a trifle dish. Pour one wine glass of brandy and three wine glasses of white wine over them to soak.
  2. Prepare a thick, rich custard according to the directions for "Custards," made from equal portions of milk and cream with seven eggs. Before adding the custard to the dish, you may optionally spread jam and sweetmeats over the soaked cakes. Pour the nearly a pint of warm custard over the cakes.
  3. For the topping, prepare a fine light froth by whipping cream with the whites of two eggs, flavoring the mixture with wine and sugar. Heap this froth lightly over the trifle just before serving.
