  1. Beat together a little salad-oil with a tablespoonful of vinegar, mustard, pepper, and salt until combined. Stir in the yolk of an egg. The sauce should be highly seasoned to taste.
  2. This sauce may also be used to baste mutton while roasting; score the meat in different places to allow the sauce to penetrate.
