Instructions

  1. Boil a large onion with a little pepper in milk until quite soft. Remove the onion and pour the milk over grated stale bread. Boil it up with a piece of butter and dredge with flour. Beat it well with a silver fork until well combined.
  2. Alternative method (without butter or milk): Slice a large onion thin and put it into a little veal gravy. Add grated bread, pepper, and the yolk and white of an egg well beaten together.
